After capturing the hearts of millions with her poem, “The Hill We Climb,” during President Joe Biden’s inauguration, 22-year-old poet Amanda Gorman will take on another large stage by participating in the Super Bowl LV pregame show.
The National Football League (NFL) announced that Gorman, the newest IMG Models signee, will recite an original poem before Super Bowl LV, nationally on CBS and the in-stadium pregame ceremony.
The Los Angeles native’s poem will honor three individuals chosen by the NFL as honorary game captains for the football game on Sunday. Among those chosen were Trimaine Davis, a Los Angeles teacher, Suzie Dorner, a Tampa nurse, and James Martin, a Marine veteran.
“These heroes are symbolic of the thousands of health-care professionals, educators, and veterans throughout our country who continue to care for, heal and support those in need during this pandemic,” the NFL said in a statement.
Along with an impressive pregame ceremony featuring singers Jazmine Sullivan and H.E.R., fans can expect just as equally spectacular a halftime show starring singer The Weekend.
“We’re gonna use the stadium to present the show in a way that it’s never been presented before,” he said. “But it is absolutely a live, live show inside that halftime stadium in more places than you would expect.”
