AMAs Production Team Addresses Chris Brown’s Canceled Performance

The American Music Awards production company broke its silence on the drama surrounding Chris Brown‘s performance that was supposed to occur during the Sunday night ceremony.

On Monday, a spokesperson from Dick Clark Production clarified that the tribute being pulled was not Brown’s fault but a matter of creative direction.

“Live shows change all the time, it’s the nature of this business; unfortunately, this element of the AMAs didn’t come together as we couldn’t align on the performance, to no fault of Chris Brown,” the statement read.

On November 19, 2022, the day before the show, the R&B singer took to Instagram and posted a video from rehearsals. In the post, Brown performs a lengthy routine that was supposed to be tributed to the Legendary Michael Jackson.

“U SERIOUS?” the caption read. “WOULDVE been the ama performance, but they canceled me for reasons unknown,” Breezy said in a separate comment.

On Monday, Ciara joined the conversation sharing a video that featured her in the same rehearsal as Brown performing a dance number to the King of Pop’s hit single Thriller. The singer alluded to the fact that she was also slated to perform for the tribute.

“MJ thank you for the inspiration you’ve given us all! Thriller 40th Anniversary. @ChrisBrownOfficial, you’re a rare breed of this generation. Always fun to rock with you,” Ciara wrote.

Chris Brown did not attend the show on Sunday night. However, he did win ‘Favorite Male R&B Artist’ against The Weekend, Giveon, Brent Faiyaz, and Lucky Daye.

Kelly Rowland accepted the award on his behalf and quieted the crowd after some audience members booed instead of applauding. “Chris Brown is not here tonight, so I’m accepting this award on his behalf,” Rowland said before responding to some booing and unclear shouts from the audience.

“Excuse me, chill out,” she continued. “But I want to tell Chris, thank you so much for making great music, and I want to tell him thank you for being an incredible performer. I’ll take this award and bring it to you, I love you! Congratulations, and congratulations to all the nominees in this category.” More unclear shouts from the audience followed.

In a recent interview obtained by TMZ, Roland shared that Breezy deserves forgiveness and grace. “It’s important to remember to be human. We all need to be forgiven for anything we could be doing. We call come up short in some way,” she said.
