Starting January 29, Amazon Prime Video will feature limited advertisements, as announced in September.
Users can opt for an ad-free experience by paying an additional $2.99 monthly; pre-registration is currently available.
“This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period. We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers,” said the company in an email to its account holders.
The upcoming addition of advertisements on Amazon Prime Video will exclude rented or purchased content.
The change will apply to users in the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Canada, while users in France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia can expect it later in the new year.
Amazon has assured that there will be no change in the current Prime membership price.
Currently, Prime Video is accessible either through a standalone subscription at $8.99 per month or as part of an Amazon Prime account, priced at $14.99 per month or $139 per year.
