Amazon says that it is working to remove shirts that refer to U.S. Sen. And Democratic vice-president nominee Kamala Harris as a “hoe.”
In a statement to Newsweek, Amazon said that it is removing “Joe and the Hoe” T-shirts from its site after facing backlash from customers. The shirts were featured on the website for sale and were listed by third-party sellers. “All sellers must follow our selling guidelines, and those who do not will be subject to action, including potential removal of their account. The products in question have been removed,” the company said.
According to the outlet, the shirts were posted on the site for at least a day. But two other shirts that featured the same slogan were still available for purchase as of 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday. When Newsweek mentioned that the shirts were still there, the company responded, saying, “We are working on taking these down.”
“Joe and The Hoe for Men Cotton Crew-Neck Short Sleeve Biden Harris Vintage Political T-Shirt,” one of the shirt’s descriptions said. Another was described as “Joe and The Hoe Votes No 2020 Biden Harris Novelty Political T-Shirt.” Both shirts were being sold for $19.99 by a seller named “Weisay.” The unidentified person has another shirt that says, “Yes, I’m a Trump girl; get over it.”
Some of their other apparel includes shirts that have the slogans “save America’s postal service,” “I [heart] Fauci.,” and one that has a picture of Ronald Reagan that reads, “I smell hippies.”
Since Harris was chosen as Joe Biden’s VP, the insults and harassment towards Harris have been endless. Bill Baptist, a freelance photographer for the Houston Rockets, was just fired for sharing a post that referred to Harris as the sexist term. The NBA announced in a statement that Baptist was terminated. In response to the backlash, Baptist released a statement saying, “The phrase I posted does not reflect my personal views at all. I should not have been so insensitive to post the statements by others.” He continued: “I sincerely apologize to all of those who have rightfully been offended, and I have taken the post down from my FB page. It was a horrible mistake on my part.
