Amazon is going to buy the company iRobot, which makes the popular floor cleaner Roomba.
Already sitting as a company worth billions, Amazon is set to increase its value with the acquisition of home robotics company iRobot. This won’t be a new space for Amazon, as the conglomerate e-commerce company has an entire division called Amazon Robotics. Amazon plans on dropping a whopping $1.7 billion.
Once the deal is solidified, this will be the fourth-largest buy for Amazon. Just to put the company’s worth into perspective, it bought Whole Foods back in 2017 for $13.7 billion; in 2021, it bought MGM movies studios for $8.45 billion and the medical provider One Medical for $3.9 billion.
“We know that saving time matters, and chores take precious time that can be better spent doing something that customers love. Over many years, the iRobot team has proven its ability to reinvent how people clean with products that are incredibly practical and inventive—from cleaning when and where customers want while avoiding common obstacles in the home, to automatically emptying the collection bin,” reads Amazon’s press release about the pending acquisition.
