Amazon announced that the company would no longer screen most job candidates for marijuana use, opting to treat cannabis the same as alcohol.
Marijuana will no longer be included in their comprehensive drug screening program for positions that the Department of Transportation does not regulate.
Amazon will continue to do impairment checks on the job and test for all drugs and alcohol after any incident.
“In the past, like many employers, we’ve disqualified people from working at Amazon if they tested positive for marijuana use,” Dave Clark, CEO, Worldwide Consumer, said in an update posted on the company blog. “However, given where state laws are moving across the U.S., we’ve changed course,” he continued.
Amazon said the update is meant to keep up with the company’s vision to be “Earth’s Best Employer and Earth’s Safest Place To Work.”
