Amazon has unveiled its long-awaited home robot called the Astro.
The three-wheeled device starts at $999 and has a wide range of features. The robot roams around your home, learning each room and the faces of all residents. This recognition technology will allow the robot to perform tasks such as taking an item to someone or routinely checking on them while in a different part of the home. Users can video chat directly from Astro.
Astro also supports Alexa Guard, which listens for carbon monoxide, smoke alarms, and glass breaking. The robotic assistant can be connected to the Ring camera and will automatically upload to the Ring storage. In addition, Astro features a 10-inch touch screen that allows users to play music and TV shows.
As part of its roll-out, Amazon has launched Astro as a “Day 1” product. Users wanting to get their hands on one will have to request an invitation. The customers invited to receive the first round of Astro’s will begin receiving them later this year. While the price is $999 during the invite phase, Astro will officially launch at $1,449.99 next year. Buyers will receive six months of Ring Protect Pro for free, which is a $120 value.
Besides being cute, Astro can help you monitor your home when you're away, check on your family and pets, and move with you during video calls.
