Amazon Web Services (AWS) has officially restored its systems after a major outage temporarily disrupted several major online platforms, including Amazon, Alexa, Snapchat, Fortnite, ChatGPT, and the Epic Games Store.

The widespread issue began early Monday morning in AWS’s US-EAST-1 region, a central hub for many online platforms. Users around the world reported problems accessing apps and websites, with smart home devices, cloud platforms, and gaming services all impacted.

During the outage, Alexa devices were unable to respond to voice commands or carry out routines, while cloud-based apps like Canva, Airtable, and Perplexity went offline. Even the McDonald’s app was affected.

Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas addressed the issue on Twitter, confirming that “Perplexity is down right now. The root cause is an AWS issue. We’re working on resolving it.”

By 6:35 AM ET, Amazon announced that “most AWS service operations are succeeding normally now” and confirmed that systems had fully recovered. A few lingering connection delays were cleared shortly after.

AWS outages in the US-EAST-1 region have caused similar disruptions in past years, including 2020, 2021, and 2023. While Amazon has not shared details about the cause, the company said it’s taking steps to prevent similar incidents.

For now, users can expect normal service across all AWS-powered platforms.

Amazon thanked customers for their patience, assuring them that operations are stable and monitoring continues to ensure full reliability moving forward.
