Travelers who like to plan ahead will be happy to see American Express has released its list of top destinations for 2023.
On Tuesday, American Express Travel published its 2023 Trending, which features the ten most popular destinations for travel next year.
The list was determined by the number of global American Express Card Member travel reservations made between 2019 to 2022. While some places aren’t surprising, there are a few unexpected destinations that made the list.
The company’s trending destination list includes Copenhagen, Denmark; Istanbul, Turkey; Lisbon, Portugal; Mexico City, Mexico; Paris, France; and Sydney, Australia.
But urban escapes aren’t the only places that came up. American Express shared island-inspired destinations as well, including the Florida Keys and Yakuve Island, Fiji. As well as quiet getaways like Woodstock, Vermont.
The entire (tiny) nation of Montenegro made its way on the 2023 list, which offers a mix of all the trends thanks to its bustling cities, quiet mountain villages, and stunning seaside, Food, and Wine reported.
American Express Travel went the extra mile to point travelers on the right path by having its travel consultants create three-day itineraries for each destination. They provided travelers with top places to stay, eat, shop, and explore.
The company also identified trends among travel, which included 89% of respondents to its survey saying they want to go on a trip that helps them escape their routine. And 74% of surveyors plan to travel more in 2023 for their well-being.
Additionally, 88% of respondents say they enjoy seeking out local experiences and learning about a culture when they travel, while 43% agree that they want to travel more as their New Year’s resolution.
50% of respondents are already thinking about where they want to go on their upcoming summer 2023 vacations.
