Grammy-nominated singer and actress Andra Day is gearing up for an exciting year ahead, with new projects spanning film, music, and personal growth.
Day recently opened up about her upcoming horror film “The Deliverance,” directed by the acclaimed Lee Daniels.
The movie, which delves into deep character development, centers around Ebony, a single mother facing both personal and supernatural challenges.
Day expressed her enthusiasm for the role, noting that portraying Ebony has been more challenging than her breakout performance as Billie Holiday.
“Ebony feels more relatable,” Day explained. “It’s a different kind of vulnerability that I’m exploring with this character.”
The actress explains the challenges her character faces in the movie and how these issues also begin to affect her children.
“There’s those emotional demons and there’s the physical demons. They haunt us. Possess our kids and haunt them. And so that’s what technically happens to her in the film.”
The ensemble cast of “The Deliverance” features Mo’Nique, Octavia Spencer, Glenn Close, Aunjanue Ellis, Taylor, and Omar Epps, with the film slated to debut on Netflix on August 30th.
On the music front, Day has been equally busy. Her new album “Cassandra” hit the shelves on May 10th, marking a significant milestone in her career.
The artist shared her feelings about producing the album, expressing gratitude for its completion.
“I’m glad to have this chapter, like, to have birthed it and to get it out. It’s been nine years.”
Fans can look forward to experiencing the new music live as Day embarks on a tour starting August 9th.
But that’s not all on Day’s packed schedule. She revealed an upcoming release with Titus Kefauver titled “Exhibiting Forgiveness,” set to debut in September. This project adds another layer to her already diverse portfolio.
Amidst her professional endeavors, Day also opened up about her personal life. Following a recent relationship, she’s currently focusing on healing and spiritual growth.
“It’s all about finding balance,” Day emphasized. “I’m learning to juggle my career with self-care and personal development.”
As Andra Day navigates her multifaceted career, fans can look forward to seeing her evolution on-screen and in her music.
