André 3000 just gave some of Atlanta’s youngest residents a welcome into the world they’ll never forget. On June 5th, the music legend popped up at Grady Memorial Hospital, serenading newborns and their mothers with his flute.
“Grady moms and babies were treated to their own pop-up flute concert by the legendary @andre3000 – right here in our halls. Sounded like serenity in the key of #ATL,” Grady Hospital posted on Instagram, sharing photos of André with beaming moms and hospital staff.
The appearance comes nearly two years after his instrumental album “New Blue Sun” and just weeks after dropping “7 piano sketches,” which he described as raw improvisations: “To conjure them up, I spread my fingers out on the keys and randomly but with purpose move them around until I find something that feels good or interesting.”
Still grieving his mother, who passed in 2013, André’s connection to motherhood runs deep. In 2018, he dedicated two instrumentals to her memory, showing that his music continues to be both personal and healing.
This was also his second Atlanta appearance this week, reconnecting with Big Boi and Dungeon Family for a surprise performance on Metropolitan Parkway.
Rapping may be on hold, but André 3000 is still giving fans moments that matter.
