Andrea Kelly speaks out on having the best part of R. Kelly and says she earned her last name.
Andrea recently joined the ‘Turnt Out With TS Madison’ show on FOX Soul, where she discussed many things in her life. Straight out of the gate, Madison asked Andrea her opinion on her ex-husband, R.Kelly, being found guilty of sex crime charges. Andrea quickly denied having any reactions toward the situation.
“I have none because that was his trial, not mine,” the professional dancer said.
Madison then asked Andrea if she ever regretted marrying the singer. Andrea says she never regretted their marriage because she received the best part of him.
“Not at all. I have three beautiful children and that’s what people don’t understand,” Andrea added. “I sit in a special place. I’m a survivor, I’m also his ex-wife and the mother of his children. So to ever regret meeting him means I regret my children. I have the best part of him, his three kids.”
Madison goes on to mention how many people scrutinize Andrea for keeping her last name and not changing it back to her maiden name. Andrea explains why she made that discussion and says that she earned the name.
“I don’t have his last name. It’s not like he left me a house and even if he did and I decide to live in it till the day that I die, that’s my business. My last name is not a car lease. You don’t turn it in at the end of the marriage. My name is Andrea Danielle Kelly and I earned that name. Blood, sweat, and tears. And people should not care why I kept the last name. They should be more concerned with what I do with the last name. If my name wasn’t Kelly, I wouldn’t be on CNN. 20/20 wouldn’t come and follow me for a day.”
Andrea continued by saying if she would have reverted back to her maiden name, her phone wouldn’t ring. She adds that she uses her ex’s last name as a way to gain publicity to speak on domestic violence.
