The 2018 Democratic Florida gubernatorial candidate, Andrew Gillum, revealed to host Tamron Hall that he identifies as bisexual in an interview that aired Monday.
“You just asked the question. You put it out there whether I identify as gay. And the answer is, I do not identify as gay, but I do identify as bisexual,” said Gillum.
This was Gillum’s first interview since he was found unconscious in a Miami Beach Hotel room with another man who reportedly overdosed on crystal meth.
For the full hour of the season premiere, Hall used the show to probe Gillum about the incident, which temporarily derailed his political career.
After losing the 2018 governor’s race to Gov. Ron DeSantis, Gillum said that he gave in to depression and began drinking heavily, which included putting whiskey in his morning coffee.
Photos from that night in the Miami Beach hotel room showed dozens of white pills and beer bottles on the floor, along with sheets covered in bodily fluids. After rescue workers confirmed that he had stable vital signs, Gillum left the hotel.
The full interview airs Monday at 2 p.m.
