Well, it’s unlikely that we’ll see any collaborations between Angie Stone and D’Angelo in the near future.
In a recent interview with Vlad, the 61-year-old singer spoke about her relationship with D’Angelo and detailed why they’ll probably never work together again. If you’re unaware, Stone co-wrote on D’Angelo’s debut album, Brown Sugar. The two singers also dated in the early 90s and welcomed a son together in 1998.
“I thought he was older than he was ’cause he had an old soul […] At the time, we were just the best of friends. As time grew, we ended up falling for each other. All I can tell you is sh*t happens,” Stone said.
In addition, Stone opened up about the difficulties of co-parenting with D’Angelo and claimed his pride was hindering them from collaborating.
“Everybody and they momma wish Angie Stone and D’Angelo would get back together and work again. I’ve heard it a million times. His pride as a man would not allow of him to do that because he doesn’t want to share the credit,” she revealed. “He doesn’t want it to look like, ‘What if I get with her and we win? Then it’s going to look like she did it.’ I mean the writings on the wall, but hey if you want to roll like that, I’m not mad at you, but that’s not my spirit.”
Nevertheless, the former couple’s son, Michael Archer II known as Swayvo Twain, has followed in his parents’ footsteps and pursued a career in music. In fact, Twain recently remixed his father’s “Sh*t, Damn, Motherf*cker” single last month.
