Anne Hathaway revealed that she was nowhere near the top choice for the lead role of Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada on a recent episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
According to the Daily Mail, when asked by Rose’ what role “she had to fight tooth and nail for” during Friday’s episode, the actress “spilled the tea” on landing the lead in the film.
“How much time do you have?” she asked.
“A lot of them! I will give you some tea: I was the ninth choice for Devil Wears Prada. But I got it! Hang in there, never give up,” she advised the contestants.
The actress appeared on the show via Zoom, breaking out into hives over her nervousness.
“I have to let you guys know; I don’t care who I am — I still break out in hives,” she said. “So I’m just going to arrange my hair [and] cover up the fact that I get very nervous talking in public.”
In arguably one of her most well-known roles, Hathaway starred alongside Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci in the film. She played Sachs, the assistant to the editor-in-chief of a prominent fashion magazine. The film was based on the book of the same name by Lauren Weisberger.
It was previously reported that Rachel McAdams was the first choice for the role, but she turned it down multiple times. Juliette Lewis and Claire Danes were also considered for the part.
