Anonymous Grand Juror In Breonna Taylor Case Responds To Kentucky AG’s Request To Keep Juror From Speaking Publicly

The attorney for an anonymous grand juror in the Breonna Taylor case asked a judge on Sunday to deny the state’s request for a stay of any court order allowing the juror to speak out publicly until after a potential state appeal.

Circuit Court Judge Annie O’Connell has yet to rule on the request.

According to CNN, Kevin Glogower, the grand juror’s attorney, said in his motion that Attorney General Daniel Cameron “cannot choose to part from the rules in disclosing information and then use his position to prevent others from responding to his misleading remarks.

The juror’s attorney argues that Cameron has made public statements about the grand jury process but is attempting to block jurors from doing the same. He claims that by holding a press conference in September, Cameron “completely undid” secrecy surrounding the grand jury proceedings.

On Friday, Cameron said that if O’Connell allows the juror to speak out, he will file an appeal.

Cameron filed a motion citing “grand jury secrecy has existed for centuries. Research has not revealed any Kentucky case permitting a grand juror to violate his or her oath, and the most analogous case from a sister state denied a similar request. There is no doubt that the question presented is substantial and is surely deserving of appellate review.”

Taylor, 26, was killed by Louisville Metro Police officers on March 13 when police executed a warrant on her home.

Taylor’s boyfriend fired a warning shot, hitting one of the officers, and officers Sergeant John Mattingly, Detective Brett Hankison, and Detective Myles Cosgrove returned fire. Officers struck Taylor six times.

The grand jury indicted Hankison on wanton endangerment charges for bullets fired into a neighboring apartment. He pleaded not guilty. No one has been charged in Taylor’s death.

Last month, Cameron presented evidence in the case to a Jefferson Country grand jury. The anonymous juror contends that Cameron distorted the facts presented to the public compared to what was presented to the jurors.
