Actor Anthony Anderson sat down with The Breakfast Club, where he discussed dropping out of college and his re-enrollment, colon cancer awareness efforts, and more.
Anderson, who just turned 50, spoke about getting a colonoscopy done live to take the stigma off of the process.
“With the loss of Chadwick Boseman and others alike, I just felt it was necessary to help educate and document my experience and show everybody that it’s cool to do this and it can save your life.”
The “Black-ish” star also spoke on cutting off his children recently to teach them financial responsibility. He explained that when his son decided to drop out of Howard University to pursue a career in acting and music, he supported this decision but said that his son would have to make way for himself financially. This eventually led Anthony to speak about his own decision to return to college after dropping out and how he had once hoped to graduate from Howard with his son in 2022.
“It was something that I wanted. We have to face it, college isn’t for everyone, and apparently, it wasn’t in the cards for my son. I couldn’t force my beliefs on him and what I thought an education was because of how I grew up and whatnot.” Anthony went on to say that he still plans to follow through with getting his degree.
“I still plan on getting my degree from Howard. I’m still 15 credits short. I’m still working on that program. I just won’t be graduating with my son in 2022, but I will be graduating from HU.”
When he spoke on “Black-ish,” the actor says that he is happy with how the series has become informational and relatable to the viewers who often tell him, “When I see your family on screen, I see my family.”
Charlemagne asked Anderson where he ranks “Black-ish” in terms of Black sitcoms.
“It’s up there with the greats brother. It’s up there with The Cosbys. It’s up there with The Jeffersons. It’s up there with Good Times.” While he doesn’t know exactly where the show ranks, he did say that he believes it is in the top five.
