NBA star Anthony Edwards has told the courts he wants no physical dealings with the daughter he shares with Ayesha Howard. However, he is willing to take care of his financial responsibility for the baby girl.
Recent court docs reveal that Edwards scored a legal victory after a Los Angeles judge ruled that California lacks jurisdiction over child support in Howard’s paternity lawsuit. According to court documents, a hearing took place on February 24th, where Howard and her attorneys were present, along with a lawyer for Edwards.
The judge granted Edwards’ motion, determining that Georgia, where he previously filed a separate paternity suit, is the appropriate state to handle financial matters regarding their daughter, Aubri Summers, born in October 2024. Edwards accused Ayesha of filing in California to secure higher child support, stating, “[Ayesha’s] conduct here is unjustifiable and a bad faith attempt to obtain a higher child support order.”
Despite the court battle, Edwards has made it clear he does not want to be in the child’s life, at least for now.
“I am not seeking child custody or visitation of Aubri. Therefore, the only issues to be resolved are financial in nature,” he wrote in a declaration.
Howard countered Edwards’ claims, providing a California driver’s license and Aubri’s birth certificate to support her residency. She also alleged that after informing Edwards of her pregnancy, he blocked her and told her their daughter would be a “fatherless child.”
A follow-up hearing is scheduled for March 20th to determine custody and visitation jurisdiction. This latest update was unveiled after Edwards celebrated the first birthday of his other daughter, whom he shares with his girlfriend, Shannon Jackson. People online slammed the basketball star for acknowledging one of his children while making it clear he wants no dealings with the other. He has not spoken publicly about the matter.
