The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves in game five of the Western Conference finals 124-94, officially sending the Thunder to the NBA finals for the second time in the franchise’s history. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Magic Johnson Award (MVP) recipient, was grateful but knew there was one more series before he got the trophy he wanted.

Finishing the series averaging 31 points, five rebounds, eight assists, and almost two steals, shooting guard Anthony Edwards struggled mightily in the last few games of this series, which was a glaring issue that affected the team. The lack of production from aging point guard Mike Conley was another thorn in Minnesota’s side.
Edwards was asked after the game how he felt coming up short for a second year in the Western Conference Finals. His answer would motivate every Minnesota fan and should have them ready for next season.
“It’s exciting,” Edwards told the media about failing to make it out of the Western Conference finals. “I don’t know why people would think it would hurt; it’s exciting for me. I’m 23. I get to do it a whole bunch of times. I’m more so hurt for Mike(Conley). We tried last year, but we couldn’t get it; we tried this year; I’m going to try again next year, but hurting is a terrible word to use.”
These are wise words from the 23-year-old who has a world of time. I think the public media’s perception of constantly trying to drown him in the face of the NBA can curve the perception of Edwards’s mentality, and he made sure he let everyone know that nobody would outwork him this summer.
“I’m going to work my but off this summer. Nobody’s going to work harder than me this summer, I’ll tell you that much.”
Check out the postgame interview from last night with the all-NBA shooting guard.
