After six weeks on the run, escaped inmate Antoine Massey is back in custody. U.S. Marshals arrested him Friday at a home on Stroelitz Street in New Orleans’ Hollygrove neighborhood, with help from a CrimeStoppers GNO tip. Officials confirmed he was captured peacefully and without resistance.
Massey, 32, was one of two inmates still missing after the shocking May 16th jailbreak at the Orleans Justice Center. Ten inmates exploited a security flaw, disappearing behind a toilet and slipping through a plumbing chase before scaling fences to freedom. Eight were recaptured quickly. That left Massey and convicted killer Derrick Groves still at large, until now.
“Antoine Massey has finally been recaptured in the Hollygrove area of New Orleans,” said Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill. “He will now face additional charges for his role in the escape, and I’ll ensure that he will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Great work by all our law enforcement partners who have been working so hard for this outcome. One more to go!”
Earlier this month, a viral video showed a man claiming to be Massey denying his involvement and pleading for support from rappers Lil Wayne and Meek Mill. Authorities raided the location tied to that video, recovering clothing believed to be his.
Now, only Groves remains on the run. Law enforcement continues to warn the public not to harbor him and to report any sightings. Groves, linked to a high-profile 2018 double homicide, is considered dangerous.
