Looks like New England Patriots receiver Antonio Brown is in the clear in the civil lawsuit filed against him over an alleged sexual assault, at least for now.
The wide receiver’s former trainer Britney Taylor accused him of exposing his genitals to her and kissing her without her consent while the two were at Browns Pittsburgh-area home back in June 2017. Taylor filed the civil suit against Brown last week, one day after the Patriots signed him to the team.
In a statement to the NFL Media, the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office said Wednesday that it will not investigate an incident that allegedly took place within its jurisdiction because the two-year statute of limitations for such offenses has expired. This means that Taylor may of waited too late to have filed the lawsuit.
In the wake of the new development, Ian Rapoport of the NFL reports said that, “at least for the first two alleged offenses committed by Antonio Brown, there will be no criminal inquiry. That is potentially significant, as it relates to his eligibility and status to continue playing.”
The other two incidents which happened in Florida involve even worse allegations, including a claim that Brown forcibly raped Taylor. It’s unknown whether Florida prosecutors will investigate these allegations.
So far, Brown has denied any wrongdoing and his attorney Darren Heitner, released a statement last week stating that his client had been in a “consensual personal relationship” with Taylor. Brown is expected to head back on the football field this weekend when the Patriots take on the Jets.
