When the news broke that coach Josh McDaniels was let go on Wednesday morning, Las Vegas Raiders fans couldn’t help but feel like their prayers had been answered. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was benched, and Offensive Coordinator Mick Lombardi was fired. The Raiders announced that Linebackers Coach Antonio Pierce will assume the role of Interim Head Coach.
Pierce will take over for the rest of the year, and then a comprehensive search will be made during the off-season. He has confidence in the team’s camaraderie, focus, and loyalty to the current season.
“The Raider pride. The commitment to excellence and making sure our alumni, our fans, and Raider Nation are proud of what they see on the field,” the 45-year-old coach told the press. “We’re tired of losing. It’s not a good feeling. We’re a production-based business.”
The production is essential and something that the Raiders have lacked. Sitting at 2-3, with two losses in a row. They are still favored over the Giants and Pierce could get off to a fiery start if he can get a win at home Sunday.
