Tech giant Apple has decided to discontinue the last version of its portable music player, the iPod Touch.
The announcement will end the era of digital music that Apple initially started when it introduced the iPod in 2001 when it boasted about the device’s ability to hold “up to 1,000 CD-quality songs into an ultra-portable, 6.5-ounce design that fits in your pocket.”
The first version of the iPod touch resembled the iPhone, when it hit shelves in 2007. And the latest version was in 2019.
The $199 iPod Touch is equipped to send iMessages and make FaceTime calls. And of course, it’s able to play music.
Greg Joswiak, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple, released a statement saying, “the spirit of iPod lives on” through its many other products offered to customers that also integrate music-playing features.
For now, Apple says the iPod touch will be available while supplies last.
