Apple Has Finally Addressed The "Ducking" Autocorrect Issue

After years of annoyingly correcting the word “ducking,” Apple is finally fixing its autocorrect issue.

Many have complained that when they want to use the “f-bomb,” Apple will often switch the world to “ducking,” a now famous battle among iPhone users and their keyboards. Now, with the latest update, iOS 17, the AI-powered autocorrect, using similar components to that of ChatGPT, will learn users’ texting habits better. Instead of rectifying their vulgar language, the keyboard will learn to embrace it.

This new update was announced Monday during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference at Apple Park in Cupertino, California.

“In those moments where you just want to type a ducking word, well, the keyboard will learn it, too,” confirmed Craig Federighi, Apple’s head of software.

He explained that the new iOS could fix complete sentences based on context. For instance, if you finish a sentence using an incorrect word, such as “your” with “you’re,” Apple will know to correct this. The new iOS also gives you the option to go back to the original word you entered by tapping on the change, slowly understanding your typing tendencies.

Apple has made several efforts over the years to enhance the autocorrect functionality by introducing improvements in subsequent software updates. However, despite advances, autocorrect has still had its flaws, sometimes leading to unintended or humorous word replacements. Since autocorrect relies on predictive text algorithms and dictionary databases to make its corrections, the incorporation of AI to strengthen typing is expected to make a world of difference.

iOS 17 will be available later this year.
