Apple Inks Major Deal With Oprah Winfrey

In Apple’s effort to beef up its original content portfolio to compete with the likes of Netflix and Amazon, the tech giant has secured a multi-year deal with television host extraordinaire, #OprahWinfrey.

“Together, Winfrey and Apple will create original programs that embrace her incomparable ability to connect with audiences around the world,” the company said in a statement. “Winfrey’s projects will be released as part of a lineup of original content from Apple.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the deal covers everything from TV and books to apps. In addition, Winfrey’s Harpo Films will own any and all content produced under the deal.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Winfrey will also keep her position as chairman and CEO of Discovery Communications-backed cable network OWN.

According to CNN, the company declined to reveal how much the deal was worth.
