Apple is making it easier to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination on your iPhone or Apple Watch. The company will roll out an iOS 15 update allowing users to display the cards in their Wallet app.Â
In Monday’s iOS15 launch, Apple introduced the ability to add COVID-19 vaccination status and test results. In a forthcoming update, users will see the option to “Add to Wallet and Health.” Once added, the information will show on a digital card in their Wallet.Â
The card will feature a QR code for businesses and venues to scan. Once a merchant scans the card, they will see the information briefly but not store it. Â
In addition to the QR code, the card will display the user’s name, issuer, name of the vaccines, and the dates doses were received.
The full details of the card will not be available unless a user unlocks the device with Face ID, Touch ID, or by typing in the passcode. As for third-party apps, they will have access to the data if users choose to share it.Â
Users will need to do more than take a snapshot of their vaccine card to show proof of vaccination. Apple gives three options to prove COVID-19 vaccination status: upload records via a QR code sent by their provider, a downloadable file, or a connected healthcare institution using Health Records.Â
The changes come as several cities have moved to require proof of vaccination to ear in restaurants, attend concerts, and more.
