Spotted by Zoe Schiffer from NBC News, a collaborative group of Apple workers is staging a Christmas Eve employee walkout while urging customers to boycott the tech giant’s stores and products in solidarity with the workers who are demanding better workplace conditions.
Although Apple prides itself on its commitment to diversity, equity, and environment, employees have recently spoken out about their negative experiences. Workers were so bothered that they formed the #AppleToo movement, a safe space where workers can share their concerns and experiences about the company.
On Friday, Apple Together shared a list of demands in the form of a tweet. “We demand hazard pay. We demand healthcare premium coverage. We demand healthcare premium coverage. We demand more accessible paid leave. We demand full-time benefits for part-time workers. We demand protection from abusive customers,” the group stated.
Apple Together also laid out specific pandemic requirements, saying they need sanitization stations and customers can only come in by appointment.
While the goal is to have any Apple employees walkout/call out, Apple Together also asks customers not to shop at Apple on Christmas Eve.
It’s unclear how widespread the walkout/callout is today across Apple Stores, AppleCare, and more, but you can keep an eye on people participating and supporting Apple Together with the Twitter hashtag #AppleWalkout.
