What makes her a “hoe” exactly? That question has been tossed around over and over by feminists and non-feminists alike. Is it wrong for a woman to enjoy sex? Is there a double standard? Author and New York native, Cheryl “Cherry Bomb” Winley takes a humorous approach on the subject in her new book, “I Am Not A Hoe.”
This hilarious handbook is a funny take on promiscuity. It will have you laughing even if the content causes you to blush. It’s an easy read intended to entertain, and make light of a word that’s usually used in a derogatory manner. The first chapter begins with a “Hoe Checklist” that will leave you questioning whether or not what you did last night is consider hoe-ish. Cherry then goes into the break down of various types of hoes and whether or not you fall into that category.
Cherry Bomb got accustomed to the finer things in life at quite an early age. She grew up with dignified parents in an affluent part of Long Island. As you know though, kids will rebel, and by 16 she fell in love with her first real boyfriend — a drug dealer.
Cherry’s boyfriend introduced her to things 16 year old’s only saw in movies. Fast money, fast living, diamonds, designer brands and fancy cars; Cherry’s years as a young adult were glamorous to say the least. As she got older, Cherry found herself on the arm of the “who’s who”. Yet, no matter how ‘sponsored’ Cherry was, something was missing – she would spend her late twenties in search of that missing piece — her independence.
“Come hell, high water, or high heels” is Cherry’s favorite motto which reflects her innate determination to never be without and has led her to figuring out that the one thing that proves to be most profitable is herself and why not sell it! After being asked a million times, how do you get men to give you money? Cherry decided to pen her strategy, thus, her authorial debut I Am Not a Hoe – a handbook that details Cherry’s best possession; her game, her time, and her attention and as Iceberg Slim would say “the game is to be sold not told”.
