Ballerific Relationships – Are You Ready For Some Football?

Ah, the time is upon us. Football season has kicked off and while many women enjoy the game just as much as the men in their lives there are those who loath this time of year. As their men retreat to their man caves or head to the nearest sports bar up to 3 days of the week they start to feel neglected. This is quite common and there is even a term for it. A “football widow” is someone who loses their mate to football during the season. Ladies, if you’re not into the game there are a few things you can do to get through the season or at least make it a little less dreadful.

1.) Let Them Watch The Game In Peace: Sounds simple, right? That isn’t always the case as some women have a tendency to sabotage game day or make their mate feel as though they have to choose between time with them or partaking game day activities. You don’t want to go the “it’s me or the game” route because the game is going to win. It’s not because he doesn’t Love you or that football is more important but they realize that you’ll still be there when the game and the season is over and will choose to cease the moment and make up for it later. Oh, and I know what you’re thinking. You’ll dig out that lingerie from the back of the closet or sashay your way into the living room in your birthday suit to distract him. What man can resist? Well, lots of them. Don’t take it personal, champ.

2.) If You Can’t Beat em Join em: Some people like football while others Love it and live it. If your boo is a football fanatic this could be a great opportunity to bond over something that’s important to them even if it is “just a game” to you. Do you dislike football or do you just assume you would without giving it a chance? If he’s willing to share the experience with you then go for it. It may be a good idea to do a tad bit of research to learn the basics of the game and fun facts about his favorite team(s) so that you aren’t asking a million and one questions during the game. Now, this isn’t the time to pretend you’re interested if you aren’t because you’ll be miserable while they’re enjoying every moment of it.

3.) Hostess With the Mostess: Okay, you tried watching the game and you hate it as much as you thought you would but you still want to be part of the festivities in some way. Well, bae’s going to need something to coat his belly with besides beer, right? Bring out the battered wings, hoagie sandwiches, chips, dip, pull out the pizza and whatever snack you can think of and serve it with a smile. Apparently, watching sports causes one to work up a helluva appetite and they’ll be happy you took the time to appease them.

4.) Do Your Own Thing: Girl, You don’t have to sit around twiddling your thumbs or frying up wings if that’s not your thing. Let them have at it while you lock yourself away in your room and catch up on your shows. If staying in isn’t an option then get up, get dressed, call up your girls and catch up like you’ve been planning. Go to your favorite cafe and finish that book you can’t concentrate on with a bunch of men yelling at the television in your den. Whatever it is you want to do, do it. Besides, you could be setting an example. Season 4 of Scandal will be here before you know it and we both know you don’t want him all in your mix while you and your girls drink your favorite wine from long stemmed glasses and drool over Olivia’s coat game.

5.) Score: I know I suggested not to attempt to bribe him with your body during the game but a little celebration or sympathy bootay is always an option. If his team wins he’ll be in a great mood and that’s your cue to throw on your cute little referee outfit or a sexy cheerleader get up and go into over time. This may play out a lot differently if his team loses. You may not understand it but they sometimes take losses as if they were playing the game themselves and their salaries depend on it and can get into a bit of a funk. Combine the right amount of nurturing and nasty and you may find yourself scoring a touchdown.
