Aretha Franklin, Toni Morrison and more will be the new inductees into the Women’s Hall of Fame.
USA Today reports that the National Women’s Hall of Fame is set to host a virtual induction to honor women who passed away before the organization was created or before they could be inducted. Some women who were overlooked while they were alive will also be added. The outlet reports that the organization is aware of its lack of diversity, particularly regarding its nomination of Back women and other women of color.
The list of Back women to be added include singer Aretha Franklin, climate activist and nurse Barbara Hillary, medical research revolutionizer Henrietta Lacks, author Toni Morrison, activists and librarian Barbara Rose Johns Powell, and suffragist and civil rights activist Mary Church Terrell.
NWHF 2019 inductee Angela Davis will speak during the ceremony and 2013 Iowa Women’s Hall inductee Deborah Turner, OB-GYN, and president of the League of Women Voters. “America’s Got Talent” semifinalist Amanda Mena is set to perform at the event.
The ceremony can be watched for free. It will start at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10, USA Today reports.
