Aretha Franklin’s family expressed disappointment with the Motion Picture Academy for snubbing Jennifer Hudson’s performance in the “Respect” biopic about the music icon.
The Academy’s failure to nominate Hudson is not sitting with the family, as Franklin’s niece Sabrina Owens told TMZ.
Owens said she’s disappointed about the Oscar snub because she feels Hudson did a fantastic job in the movie, with a performance worthy of recognition.
Owens also said her aunt would agree since the film project was Aretha’s baby before she died. Franklin was heavily involved in guiding it to production and even hand-picked Jennifer to play her.
Owens explained that her aunt was a perfectionist who took great pride in her work and would’ve loved to see an Oscar nod for Jennifer’s performance in the film.
