Unfortunately, two people lost their lives after an argument transpired over a spilled drink, authorities said.
On March 19, a Virginian-Pilot reporter and former CNN news assistant died, Norfolk Police Sgt. William D. Pickering Jr., told CNN Friday.
Pickering also said the shooting has prompted patrol increase in the downtown area on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings until further notice.
CNN previously reported Virginian-Pilot newspaper reporter Sierra Jenkins was leaving Chicho’s Pizza Backstage, but an argument had started outside and was followed by gunfire.
Jenkins and Devon Malik Harris, both 25, died. Three other people were injured, police added.
A suspect has not been identified, however, the investigation is ongoing.
Harris was described as being charismatic, caring, and selfless and loved to have fun, his older brother Calvin Harris told CNN, who also said he wants his younger brother to be remembered as a “strong, educated young man.”
“There’s nothing wrong with his character. He was a great young man, destined to be great,” Calvin Harris added. “He’s a champion.”
Jenkins was a former editorial research intern with CNN and a news assistant with CNN Health that fall. She started with The Virginian-Pilot shortly after as a breaking news reporter. Jenkins had recently been reporting on school policies and issues across the region.
