Ari Lennox Faces Label Challenges, But Her Catalog Remains Unstoppable

In recent days, Ari Lennox has unveiled cracks in her relationship with record labels Interscope and J. Cole’s Dreamville.

The singer took to Instagram after her “The Terrell Show” interview went live to share her disappointment that their sit-down interview had even aired despite Lennox telling her team to scrap it.  Additionally, Lennox had been dealing with what she deemed an unsupportive team, especially surrounding her latest single, “Smoke.” She accused both labels of refusing to promote the record and offer any further marketing, encouraging her to ask for an immediate release from her contract.

Lennox’s plea, accompanied by an 18-minute video voicing her frustrations, prompted a wave of support from fans who have been around since her 2011 “Five Finger Discount” independent debut.  This project introduced many people to her soulful vocals four years before she signed her deal with Dreamville in 2015.  Her debut studio album, “Shea Butter Baby,” didn’t arrive until  May 2019.  The critically acclaimed project only further solidified Lennox in R&B music.

While there is a high chance that Lennox could soon be an unsigned musician again, that likely won’t impact her supporters, who have stood by her impressive catalog, which features these smooth favorites.

“BMO”

“Whipped Cream”

“Hoodie”

“Cascade”

“Goat”

“Up Late”

“Shea Butter Baby”
