Scooter Braun recently spoke to Variety, where he spilled some tea on the time he was fired by Ariana Grande but revealed she got out of the sunken place once she broke up with a ‘shitty boyfriend.’
For those unfamiliar with Braun, he’s the entrepreneur behind SB Projects, an artist management company, as well as the former manager of Justin Bieber and the on again off again manager of Kanye West.
In the interview, Braun describes that throughout the many ups and downs of representing artists, he never takes it personally. One of his strong suits is knowing when to speak up and when to bite his tongue.
“With Ariana, I could have said a lot of stuff, and in fact, my team wanted me to, because they were pissed. But I said, ‘We’re not gonna say a word, and this is gonna come back around.’ They were like, ‘Never take her back!’ but I just said, ‘Let’s stay quiet and let our truth be our actions.’”
Scooter basically explained that while he knew Grande was making a poor decision, he didn’t publicly defend himself or attack her, but instead let her wake up and smell the roses.
“And when shitty boyfriends leave, she starts to see the light on some stuff, and one day I got a phone call. She said, ‘Can I see you tomorrow?’ and I said, ‘No, I’m busy’—I actually couldn’t, so I said, ‘I could see you Thursday’ or whatever and I went over there and we had a very honest conversation.”
If you want to put a name to this ‘shitty boyfriend,’ just consider Ariana’s dating timeline. Ariana and Scooter stopped working together in February 2016 and were reunited in September. Grande was done with Big Sean by April of 2015, but dated Ricky Alvarez, who she broke up with in July 2016 according to Us Weekly. (BINGO!) Grande didn’t start dating Mac Miller until months later.
