A Wells Fargo employee was discovered dead in her cubicle at the company’s office in Tempe, Arizona, four days after she last scanned into the building.
Denise Prudhomme, 60, entered the office around 7 a.m. on Friday, August 16, but records show there was no further activity indicating that she left the premises.
The discovery was made on August 20 when on-site security at the Wells Fargo office contacted the Tempe Police Department about a possible deceased employee. Prudhomme was pronounced dead at 4:55 p.m. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office is still working to determine the cause of death, but initial reports from police indicate no signs of foul play.
It remains unclear how Prudhomme’s death went unnoticed for several days. According to reports from KPNX, a local Phoenix news station, Prudhomme worked on the third floor in a section that was less frequented by other employees. An anonymous coworker shared that a colleague discovered her at her desk while moving around the building. There were reports of a foul odor, but it was initially attributed to potential plumbing issues.
Wells Fargo acknowledged that Prudhomme was seated in a sparsely populated area of the office. In a statement, the company expressed its sadness over the loss, saying, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague, Denise Prudhomme. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones, and we are in contact to ensure they are well supported during this difficult time.”
The company also noted that it is reviewing its internal safety protocols and procedures to understand how this could have happened.
“We are committed to the safety and wellness of our workforce,” Wells Fargo added.
Counselors have been made available to provide support to employees during this time.
