On Tuesday, the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers announced that Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, and D-Nice would be the recipients of the “Voice of the Culture Award” at the 2021 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards.
After receiving the “Voice of the Culture” award on June 22 for their VERZUZ and Club Quarantine contributions during quarantine, the three will speak on their achievements. Swizz, Timbaland, and D-Nice will discuss how their platforms became tools to uplift and empower the Black community and their many accomplishments throughout their prolific careers in music.
VERZUZ, Swizz and Timbaland’s virtual battle series, featured matchups from legendary artists in a head-to-head competition of hits. Participants included Erykah Badu vs. Jill Scott, T-Pain vs. Lil Jon, DMX vs. Snoop Dogg, and more.
D-Nice’s legendary deejay sets kept the party going throughout lockdown with his Instagram Live Club Quarantine. He had everyone in his live, including Michelle Obama, Oprah, Diddy, and more.
According to a press release from ASCAP, the award show is set to take place virtually from June 22 to June 24. The event recognizes top songwriters, composers, and publishers in the hip-hop, R&B, and gospel world. These creators have contributed to some of the most performed songs within these genres over the last year.
The event is free to attend online, and anyone who wishes to participate can RSVP at www.ascapexperience.com/schedule. If you register before June 10, you will have the opportunity to submit questions for the three awards recipients.
