Ashanti addresses the rumors of her and ex-boyfriend Nelly rekindling the flame.
Earlier this month, the former couple performed together at the “Under The Mistletoe” concert. Ashanti was seen grinding on her former boo while performing their 2008 hit single “Body On Me.” Following the spicy interaction, many people speculated that the two were becoming an item again.
However, on an episode of ‘Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,’ Ashanti shot down the dating rumors. The r&b songbird shared that the two are just friends who are in a “better place” following their 2014 breakup.
“I saw a lot of comments,” she said. “My reaction was ‘Wow,’ you know? It was a lot of comments and a lot of people wanting that. What I will say is we’re in a better place, because before it was like [makes punching movements], but, you know, we’re cool now… We had some conversations so it was cool.”
As for as rekindling their romantic flame, Ashanti just shrugged, which hinted at a possible reconnection.
Ashanti has been in the headlines lately, mainly because her former Murder Inc. producer, Irv Gotti, shared intimate details of their relationship.
Earlier this year, Gotti was a guest on Drink Champs, where he disclosed that Ashanti’s 2002 hit “Happy” was created immediately after they had sex. He also shared how he learned Ashanti was dating Nelly after seeing them on TV at an NBA game.
Ashanti later appeared on The Breakfast Club and said she was willing to forgive Gotti despite him still holding a grudge against her.
“Things will never be the same ever. But as far as being at peace and cordial, is it a possibility,” she said. “I’ve tried, you know for years consecutively I was told, ‘I’m not gonna do this and I’m not gonna do that.’ A year goes by and you do it.”
