Nelly may have tried to share a hug with his ex and award-winning singer Ashanti.
Last night, Fat Joe and Ja Rule went record-for-record in the latest Verzuz Battle, located at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu theater. Both Nelly and Ashanti took the stage, but on separate teams. Ashanti was on Ja Rule’s team while her ex stood in support of Fat Joe.
After Nelly performed, he appeared to try to hug Ashanti. But just when fans were ready to possibly see the two unite, cameras cut away. Fat Joe, Ja Rule, Remy Ma, and Ashanti sat down to discuss the unseen hug during an Instagram Live.
“There’s nothing happening,” Ashanti explained. “I had no idea he was going to be there, and I haven’t seen him or spoken to him since we broke up. I don’t know if it’s six years or something. So, I didn’t know what to expect.” When Ja asked Ashanti if there was something still there between the two, Ashanti responded, “stop playing with me, Ja.”
At some point, Fat Joe reveals that Ashanti had a private conversation about Nelly. However, she said, “nothing was said.” When Ja Rule mentioned that Nelly is single, Ashanti responded, saying that she is not. “She said what she said,” said Remy Ma.
“I’m a very positive person. I’m very private, and I wish [Nelly] the best,” Ashanti explained. “It’s a lot of stuff that happened. It’s a lot of stuff. It’s a lot of stuff unresolved. A lot of gray areas. A lot of confusion.” Fat Joe ended the conversation, saying they won’t get “messy” with the details of the two’s split.
