Travis Scott may be trying to right his wrongs when it comes to Astroworld, but the victims do not want to hear it. Scott has been offering to pay for victims’ funerals amid the horrifying events of the Astroworld Festival.
The two-day festival didn’t make it to day two, ending in a graphic scene Friday night with people being lifted by ambulance on stretchers, and others capturing the events on their phones for social media. The crowd was so jam-packed, people couldn’t move to get out of the moshpits. Hundreds of people were injured while ten died ranging from ages 9-27.
Ezra Blount, a 9-year old boy, was the youngest to die from the Astroworld concert. In a heartbreaking letter on behalf of the family, they have chosen to decline Travis Scott’s offfer for burial expenses. Several other victims’ families have now declined Travis Scott’s money for funeral arrangements and burial costs.
Another victims’ family coming forward about declining Travis’ money is Mirza “Danish” Baig, 27. The lawyer of the family, Michael Lyons, said that he viewed Travis’ offer as “ploy to soften people up.” He says, “sadly, for my clients, a check from Travis Scott … is not going to relieve the pain and suffering that they presently are experiencing,” Lyons said. “I think it will only make it worse.”
Richard Mithoff, a family attorney of John Hilgert, 14, has also declined the offer. The lawyer called Travis’s offer “demeaning and inappropriate.”
Victims’ families are expressing how it seems Travis Scott is trying to repair his public image.
