A shooting at Florida State University in Tallahassee on Thursday has left at least six people injured, according to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare. One victim is in critical condition, while five others are reported to be in serious condition. The total number of injuries may change as authorities continue their investigation.
The incident occurred near the campus Student Union, prompting an immediate shelter-in-place alert across the university. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that one suspect is in custody, but the search continues for any possible additional shooters.
Video footage from the scene shows students running for safety and police flooding the area. FSU student Daniella Streety told ABC News that sirens began blaring, and people outside rushed into nearby buildings for cover as the scene unfolded.
In a statement, Rep. Neal Dunn (R-Fla.) called the early reports “very disturbing” and urged everyone to shelter in place while thanking first responders for their quick action.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is actively involved, and the FBI is assisting with the investigation. President Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation, according to the White House.
Florida State University has canceled classes through Friday as the investigation continues.
