Hours after the mass shooting in El Paso, Texas that left 20 people dead, another one occurred in Dayton, Ohio.
According to Dayton Police Department, nine people have been killed, and 26 others were injured in the second mass shooting.
The shooting occurred around 1 am. Police was called to Ned Peppers bar on East Fifth Street, after reports of an active shooter.
Dayton police tweeted: “We had officers in the immediate vicinity when this shooting began and were able to respond and put an end to it quickly.”
The Assistant Police Chief Matt Carper told reporters it was“very fortunate that the officers were in close proximity,” according to BuzzFeed News.
The officers on patrol were able to take down the gunman, who was wearing body armor with additional magazines. Carper stated during a news conference that they are doing everything to identify the shooter, as well as the motive.
