At Least Nine Teens Shot At After-Prom Party In Texas

At least nine teenagers were injured after gunfire erupted at an after-prom party just north of Jasper, Texas. None of the teens suffered life-threatening injuries.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened just after midnight on Sunday morning. Deputies responded to calls of shots fired where about 250 people were reportedly gathered.

Eight victims were self-transported to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment. At least one teen was transferred to Christus Southeast Texas-St. Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment. One of the teens did not go to a hospital.

The sheriff’s office said that “people of interest are being questioned,” and the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.

A second shooting occurred nearby shortly after, and police are investigating that incident as related to the first. Witnesses noted a “common vehicle” present at both of the locations. 

KMBT reports that the Jasper School District issued a statement regarding the shooting. 

“We first want to say our prayers are with those injured early Sunday morning in the shooting that took place north of town,” the statement reads. “Jasper ISD is working with law enforcement in any way we can to aid in their investigation to bring these perpetrators to justice.”

The district noted in the statement that law enforcement would be present this week to ensure student safety. Additionally, counselors will be available for students.
