At least three people were killed, and one state trooper was shot when a gunman opened fire Thursday at the Columbia Machine manufacturing plant in Smithsburg, Md.
Law enforcement officials also confirmed four others were injured in the attack, NBC reports.
Maryland State Police responded to the incident and chased a suspect at the scene, according to Gov. Larry Hogan. During the chase, the suspect shot a state trooper in the shoulder. Gov. Hogan said the trooper returned fire, hitting the suspect.
The suspect was reportedly captured alive, and the trooper is expected to survive.
“The suspect is no longer a threat to the community,” the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
