An Atlanta daycare is under investigation for several cases of possible child molestation.
The West End Family Life and Community Center on Donnelly Avenue is at the center of the investigation that involves multiple children under the age of 12 who were allegedly abused between 2016 and 2018. Earlier this year, a parent reported to the Atlanta Police that her daughter had been raped while attending the daycare.
The suspect, who has not been identified, is a member of the West End Seventh-Day Adventist Church, which owns the facility. Members of the church operate the camp, though it is unclear if they were aware of the abuse.
“This case is heartbreaking because the people entrusted to protect children, our most vulnerable population, violated their trust and harmed innocent children,” APD Special Victims Unit Commander Lt. Felicia Claxton said. She says that the APD is hoping to identify any additional victims who attended the daycare or witnesses who saw inappropriate behavior.
Neighbor Matt Tooley says he had no clue such heinous acts were taking place at the daycare, stating that the facility “seems normal.”
Due to the nature of the investigation, police are not releasing details regarding victims or specifics about the sexual abuse that took place.
