Beloved Atlanta news anchor Jovita Moore has died months after being diagnosed with a rare brain cancer.
Moore had surgery for a tumor on her brain last April and was hopeful she’d make a quick return to work. But in July, it was announced that Moore was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, which is an extremely aggressive form of brain cancer that was reportedly not initially detected by doctors.
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms offered her condolences in a statement.
“Jovita was a wonderful mother, daughter and dear friend to many,” Bottoms wrote. “Even those who did not know her personally felt a deep and personal connection to Jovita. “She loved Atlanta dearly.”
The 53-year-old leaves behind her mother, two children and stepdaughter, WSB-TV said.
