As the hip-hop community continues to mourn the untimely death of Migos rapper, Takeoff, fans and many of his peers are recalling some of their fondest memories of the beloved rapper.

Music producer Drumma Boy recently caught up with Baller Alert to pay tribute to Takeoff and share what it was like working with the rapper.

The Memphis native produced the Migos hit single “Look At My Dab” in 2015 on their ‘Back to the Bando’ album.  Since then, Drumma Boy has maintained a great relationship with the rap trio. Takeoff “always pushed you to be the best that you could be,” said Drumma Boy.  “Takeoff was that guy you could talk to. He challenged you and was always a team player.”

The 28-year-old, born Kirshnik Khari Ball, was the youngest member of the Migos. A month ago, he released a joint project, ‘Only Built For Infinity Links,’ with fellow Migos rapper and uncle, Quavo.

“It was a brotherhood. He might’ve been quiet and not too outspoken, but he had a vision. People were just getting ready to see who he was going to become. This is an unfortunate situation, man,” Drumma Boy continued.

No matter how the music community first learned that Takeoff had been killed – whether via alarmed texts or social media posts – the overwhelming response was disbelief. “This is a big L for Hip Hop, Atlanta, and the trap community. Takeoff had an energy that you could not replace.”

When asked about Takeoff’s impact on the music culture, Drumma Boy said, “monumental.” “His energy will never be forgotten, and most importantly, he influenced the next generation of musicians,” Drumma said. “We’re going to see a resurgence of artists that are inspired by him and will pass that torch to keep his legacy going.”

Last week, Quality Control Music, TakeOff’s label, released an official statement on Instagram in the wake of the rapper’s tragic passing.

“It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we mourn the loss of our beloved brother Kirsnick Khari Ball, known to the world as Takeoff,” the statement reads. “Senseless violence and a stray bullet has taken another life from this world, and we are devastated. Please respect his family and friends as we all continue to process this monumental loss.”

Several rappers have been killed in the past five years due to senseless violence, including PNB Rock, Young Dolph, Nipsey Hustle, XXX Tentacion, and King Von. Drumma Boy shares how this can be prevented in the future. “We have to push safety and survival for these artists. There’s no class on survival and safety methods. We have to do better as a community to enforce survival and awareness,” he said.

Takeoff is slated to be laid to rest following a massive memorial service at State Farm Arena in downtown Atlanta on November 11. According to the arena’s website, the “Celebration of Life for Takeoff” tickets were free for Georgia residents. They have since been sold out.
