Atlanta Teen Shot And Killed After Knocking On The Wrong Door

19-year-old Omarian Banks was shot repeatedly for merely knocking on a neighbor’s door in an apartment complex in Southwest Atlanta. 32-year-old Darryl Bynes has been charged with murder and is being held in Fulton County Jail.

According to police, Banks got a Lyft ride home and was dropped off near the wrong breezeway around 12:30 a.m. on Friday. Banks and his girlfriend recently moved into the apartment complex and Banks was unfamiliar with the area, walking up to what he thought was his apartment but he was at the wrong door.

Banks was on FaceTime with his girlfriend when he knocked on the door. He walked away soon after but that’s when police say, Bynes grabbed a gun and went onto his balcony to confront Banks. After a brief conversation, Bynes shot Banks.

Banks’ girlfriend told Channel 2, “I heard him say, ‘Sorry, I’m at the wrong house.’ Then the man said, ‘No you’re not. N**ga you at the right house.’ And he shot two more times.” Another witness said, “I see him running around the corner, and all you hear him saying is, ‘I am sorry. It was the wrong door.’ (He said), ‘You ain’t come to the wrong door’ and shot him a third time. I saw him drop to the ground.”

Bynes initially told police he shot Banks in self-defense, but officers say he shot the teen from his balcony as Banks was coming down the stairs, trying to get away. More details on this story are emerging.
