The lawyer for the “QAnon shaman” wants outgoing President Donald Trump to pardon his client for his participation in the deadly siege of the Capitol last week.
According to Politico, Albert Watkins said his client, Jacob Chansley, should be pardoned, and he is publicly petitioning Trump to do it.
Watkins contends that Chansley “felt like he was answering the call of our president” when he stormed the Capitol on January 6th, in a riot that resulted in the deaths of at least five people.
The 33-year-old man from Phoenix has become one of the most recognizable rioters at the Capitol siege. Chansley, also known as Jake Angeli, wore a furry horned hat, carried a spear, painted his face red, white, and blue.
Prosecutors described Chansley as “an active participant in” and “the most prominent symbol of” what they described as a “violent insurrection.” Prosecutors claim Chansley had expressed his intention of returning to Washington, D.C., for upcoming Joe Biden’s inauguration.
