August Alsina is continuing the conversation about his past romantic relationship with Jada Pinkett-Smith in a new track entitled “Entanglements.” The song’s title comes from the word Pinkett-Smith used to describe her relationship with the 27-year-old singer while opening up about Alsina on the latest episode of Red Table Talk.
Alsina released the song Saturday night on social media; the post featured a scene from American Dad. Meanwhile, the new song features #RickRoss, who is the person who suggested that Alsina make a track based on the drama. “That boy August got real talent now,” the Miami rapper said during an Instagram Live. “That n***a can really sing now. If that n***a drop that album next month … Entanglement, the album, coming soon. That bitch will go.” In Ross’ verse, he raps, “Shawty leaning on my shoulder, questioning my willpower/Jaded by her beauty but her reputation real solid.”
Elsewhere, Alsina sings: “The definition of entanglement is when we tangle in them sheets. Girl, I know we not in a relationship, but you still f*ckin with me.” He goes on: “You left your man to fuck with me, just to pay him back.” Though Pinkett-Smith used the term to describe the affair, Alsina previously agreed with Pinkett-Smith’s definition. In an interview with Vulture, Alsina supported his description, saying, “If you look up the definition of ‘entanglement,’ it is a complex and difficult relationship. It was exactly that,” he said. “I think it’s just the language that probably stuck out to people. But I definitely have to agree with it being an entanglement. It definitely was something complicated, a complicated dynamic.”
While some have laughed and joked at the Smith’s expense, others have questioned if Alsina’s “The Product III: State of Emergency” might actually be in a state of emergency when it comes to sales, prompting the singer to continue discussing the old relationship for publicity. “August Alsina is a messy, bitter side chick… smfh #entanglements,” one user wrote. “So going public about his affair w/ Jada Pinkett wasn’t August Alsina being bitter! He did so to promote his music. You’re not gonna tell me his Will Smith diss, Entanglements, WASN’T LONG IN THE WORKS. This is marketing at its worst (or best), depending on how you look at it!,” said another Twitter user.
