An Australian journalist has proven ignorance exists all over the world, but we knew that.
Claire Lehmann, the founder of Quillette and a contributor to the Australian, shared her controversial views via Twitter. She took shots at Sha’Carri Richardson by suggesting that the runner was using PEDs because of what she thought of her “strong nails and hair.”
In something she most likely wishes she can take back, the journalist wrote, “Not sure whether the nails are real or fake, but in case you didn’t know very strong nails & hair can be a side effect of steroid use.”
Lehmann then posted a photo of Richardson, who was suspended from competing for a month after the runner failed a drug test.
Test results showed she had a positive THC test.
But of course, and rightfully so, people came to Richardson’s defense and Lehman’s ignorance by pointing out she uses wigs and that her nails are fake.
Lehmann’s assumptions were far from the truth and, basically another example of America being in the wrong. The ignorance of her statements has really set the bar.
But to make matters worse (for her), the journalist continued her ill-timed rant and meritless attack, but this time was switching the attention to the late Olympic legend, Florence Griffith Joyner. Lehmann accused Flo Jo of using during her historic record-breaking run in the 1980s. She again brought attention to the acrylic nails. She also related Flo Jo’s death with a false statement that it surrounded drug use.
The sad thing is the facts clearly dispute that claim.
“Flo Jo, obvious drug user, had the nails. She died in her sleep at age 38 because that’s what a lifetime of drug use does to the body (and why it’s supposed to be banned from elite sports),” she wrote.
Many people came to the late runner’s defense, referencing her 1998 autopsy that showed her cause of death was connected to suffocation due to an epileptic seizure. Furthermore, the legend never had a positive drug test.
Entitlement is at an all-time high. Even with readily available facts at her fingertips, Lehmann has chosen to keep her misleading and false tweets up on Twitter, despite multiple users calling her out over her racist remarks.
